SINGSTAR CHART HITS

Sony
PS3 (also on PS2)

SingStar has been a godsend for everybody who fancies themselves as a warbler and boozy party hosts alike – although thanks to the ridiculous inability to transfer your disc-based songs onto the PS3 hard drive in favour of having to swap them almost every time somebody wants to change songs, the latter will usually find those discs completely trashed the morning after. Hello! Rock Band and Guitar Hero worked the rights issues out…

Anyway, the gradual trickle of new disc-based releases continues, with this currently Australasian-only hodgepodge of tracks that have been hits at some point. There’s the new (Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, 3Oh!3), the old (Alex Lloyd, George Michael, Ben Lee) and the Idol (Guy Sebastian, Wes Carr), plus a couple of rock stragglers looking awkward and lost (The Living End, Wolfmother). Hell, there’s even Milli Vanilli’s ‘Blame it on the Rain‘. They didn’t sing the bloody thing, so why should we?!

So, 30 tracks (25 on PS2), with nothing new game-wise – recent additions such as the good (online battles) and the utterly pointless (detection of vibrato – quite literally pointless as it doesn’t score) all came via an update - means this is just a track pack.

Ultimately, disc collections like this pass or fail on what you like musically and want to sing. So, whereas we struggled to find a couple of songs we’d let our lungs loose on here, others will squeal with delight at pretending to be the latest barely-clad songstrel slapper. If we marked on our taste it would get 1/10, but we have to be fair and acknowledge that not everybody has our impeccable ear, so…

take me back to the start...
