PEGGLE

Popcap
PS3/PSN (also on pretty much every other format known to humankind...)

There’s an old episode of The Simpsons – back when it was funny – where McBain’s arch enemy Mendoza unveils a drug called ‘swank’, declaring it 10 times more addictive than marijuana. Soft cock! Peggle is approximately one million, nine hundred and sixty six times more addictive than the green stuff, and doesn’t give you the munchies.

The PlayStation Network is the latest victim of this nefarious assault on productivity, and things are as they should be.

If you’ve yet to be captured by Peggle’s thrall, like most of the best puzzle games it’s diabolically simple. You have a screen full of pegs into the top of which you shoot a ball, after choosing a trajectory. The object is to knock out all orange pegs before you run out of balls – as we said, simple.

However, there are numerous strategies at play, such as which helper weapon to elect at the beginning of each of the numerous layouts, which range from basic to mind-busting arrangements which involve bouncing balls off other things to get where you need to, dealing with moving pegs and more.

A great feature is the ability to not only view high scores from the world over, but see how these people achieved them with bounce-by-bounce replays – a fab way to bolster your Peggle powers.

At just $12.95 this may seem like a mere starter fix to suck you into continued addiction, but the kicker is there’s no additional spend afterwards. The downside, however, is that you’ll be hooked. Stuff the housework, viva la Peggle!

take me back to the start...
